Heat, Oxygen and Moisture are the biggest enemies when it comes to storage of coffee. There are many theories about which is the best way to store your coffee, however we recommend you keep your coffee in an airtight container after opening and place in a cool dark and dry cupboard, much the same as you would your red wine. We do not recommend keeping your coffee in the fridge or freezer as this can expose it to moisture.
After coffee is roasted it will naturally release co2 gas, which will cause the bean to stale. At Daintree Coffee Company we pack all our coffee in heat-sealed foil bags with a one way breathable valve which allows these gasses to escape whilst keeping oxygen from entering. This ensures the product stays as fresh as possible.
Overall whole coffee beans will store better for longer than ground coffee so grinding your own is best. However in saying this consistency of the grind is essential in making a good cup of coffee every time – so making sure you purchase a good quality grinder is important if you want to do it yourself.
